What are the load index and speed rating?
•The load index is the code for the maximum load a tire can carry at the specified pressure. 91 means 615 kg per tire.
•A dual index (e.g. 109/107) appears on light commercial and heavy vehicle tires: the first number is the capacity in single fitment, the second in dual (twin wheel) fitment.
•The speed rating shows the maximum speed the tire can safely sustain at full load. V means 240 km/h.
•A new tire's load index and speed rating must not be lower than those in the vehicle registration or the manufacturer's approval. A lower speed rating may be permitted for winter tires.
Frequently asked questions
How many kg is load index 91?
+
Load index 91 means 615 kg per tire, 2,460 kg in total for four tires.
How many km/h is speed rating V?
+
Speed rating V means up to 240 km/h. H is 210, W 270 and Y 300 km/h.
Can I fit a tire with a lower load index?
+
No. The load index must not be lower than the value in the vehicle registration or the manufacturer's approval.
What do two numbers like 109/107 mean?
+
The first number is the capacity in single fitment (109 = 1,030 kg), the second the capacity per tire in dual fitment (107 = 975 kg).
